79/99: White Velvet Butter Cupcakes and 80/99: Golden Neoclassic Buttercream

Happy Super Bowl!

Honestly, I'm not a huge super bowl person. The only one I've ever watched fully was the Saints game and that rocked. I asked today who was playing and I was told that we're rooting for the Giants. Of course we go for any team with a Manning (go Rebs) so go Giants!

These cupcakes were really good. They are really light and easy to eat (maybe that's a bad thing). They went over really well.

Note: There are two recipes in the book for white velvet butter cakes but one is a cake and one is for the cupcakes. I already made the white velvet butter cake but I made it in a cupcake pan- this is the actual cupcake recipe so that's why it counts as two different recipes.

24/99: Mud Turtle Cupcakes

After I read Rose's description of these little cupcakes I was pretty pumped about making them.  Imagine this:

"First you encounter the taste of toasted whole pecans; quickly thereafter, the ganache "mud" mingling with the slightly sticky caramel; finally, your teeth sink into the most tender, full-flavored chocolate cake."

Are you drooling yet? I was.

3/99: Designer Chocolate Baby Grands

Rose's Designer Chocolate Baby Grands look absolutely amazing in her book.  They look smoother than Reeses cups and she comments that they are great for dinner parties.  I added a little chocolate flair to the top of mine and they turned out ok:

So a good rule to go by: If you are making something that is supposed to turn out beautiful, don't be an absent minded chef.

Cupcakes for Liz

I recently hosted a bridal shower for my best friend, Elizabeth. She likes cute little wedding things and is obsessed with monograms so i decided to have some fun with cupcakes.  Her fiancee's name is Josh so i thought it would be a nice touch to personalize their cupcakes.

They are pretty basic cupcakes. I made chocolate cupcakes with a marshmallow buttercream icing.  To add a little bit of flair, I draped ribbon around the side of the bases. It turned out kind of cute!
